Тысячей Игл (англ. Thousand Needles) называют крупное и сухое ущелье, расположенное ближе к южной части Калимдора. В восточной части каньона раскинулась Мерцающая равнина — котловина, в которой земля покрыта солью, чем не преминули воспользоваться инженеры гоблинов и гномов, устроившие там трассу для удивительно быстрых гоночных машин.
Несмотря на то, что почва тут практически бесплодна, локация впечатляет своей уникальной суровостью и красотой, а также восходом солнца, наблюдать за которым лучше всего стоит из Заставы Вольного Ветра или с Пика Темного Облака. Особая сюрреалистичная атмосфера царит также и на Мерцающей равнине, в инженерском городке, названном Виражи на Миражах.
Тысяча Игл находится к югу от Степей и Пылевых Топией, это место служит в качестве прохода из Пустошей и Фераласа на западе к пустыне Танарис.
История
До Великого Раскола это место было речным каньоном, за долгие годы из песочного камня вода выточила шпили. На востоке лежало широкое озеро, воды которого соединялись с океаном. За первым вторжением на Азерот демонов последовал раскол единого материка Калимдора, из-за чего каньон подняло над поверхностью воды. Озеро постепенно обмелело и высохло, оставив после себя плато, покрытое океанской солью. Вода из каньона постепенно утелка, а сама зона стала такой, какой мы видим её сейчас.
Это место представляет из себя естественную границу между центральным и южным Калимдором. Название Тысяча Игл появилось благодаря десяткам гигантских колонн из песчаника, которые поднялись над поверхностью каньона, как деревья в лесу. Между холмами протянулись небольшие веревочные мосты, через которые можно попасть от гор с одной стороны к противоположным.
Мерцающая равнина, покрытая солью, фактически находится ниже уровня воды океана, от которого её отделяют пики восточных гор. Здесь еще осталось небольшое озеро, в десятки раз более соленое, чем любое море. Здесь не слишком благоприятная среда обитания, поэтому из животных тут можно встретить только огромных скорпионов, ящерищ, черепаж и хищных птиц, не менее опасных, чем банды кентавров. Мерцающая равнина практически не представляет из себя интереса, кроме полезных ископаемых, чем не преминули воспользовать гоблины — здесь есть несколько шахт для добычи соли, песчаника и нефти.
Засушливый каньон Тысячи Игл традиционно был территорией нескольких тауренских племен, кочевавших с вершины одного холма на другой, пока не были почти полностью уничтожены вторжением кентавров. Теперь, являясь частью Орды, таурены вернулись вместе с новыми союзниками, чтобы сразиться с захватчиками, а также с самыми фанатичными представителями племени Зловещего Тотема, которые поселились на Пике Темного Облака.
Также Мерцающая равнина стала местом для знаменитого городка Виражи на Миражах, где живут самые лихие инженеры гоблинов и гномов, собирающие скоростные ракетные машины.
Теории возникновения
Одна из теорий возникновения этой удивительной местности предполагает, что в далеком прошлом Тысяча Игл были морем и частью океана, а сегодняшние холмы — небольшими островами. По другой теории, более популярной, холмы были выточены рекой, протекавшей из Фераласа, устьем которой было озеро на месте Мерцающей равнины.
Некоторые ученые предполагают, что на создание зоны могла повлиять таинственная темная магия волшебников Таланаара — эльфийского селения на границе Фераласа и Тысячи Игл.
Катаклизм
Источник информации в этой секции – дополнение Cataclysm к World of Warcraft.
В дополнении Катаклизм история повернулась вспять — очередной сдвиг земли разрушил горную границу между каньоном и океаном, из-за чего морская вода затопила Тысячу Игл.
- Великий подъемник разрушен.
- Застава Вольного Ветра захвачена племенем Зловещего Тотема, рядом с ней находится общий лагерь тауренов и ночных эльфов, из которого готовится атака на захватчиков.
- На месте небольшого лагеря Э’Ток теперь находится военное поселение Орды (англ. Westreach Summit).
- Веревочные мосты Пика Темного Облака теперь создают проход к Курганам Иглошкурых — подземелье стало частью Тысячи Игл.
- Во всей зоне заметно возрасла активность культистов Сумеречного Молота:
- Скальное гнездовье виверн было частично затоплено, а позже захвачено культистами (шельф над гнездовьем теперь называется Twilight Aerie).
- Каньон визга погрузился под воду. На холмах над ним находится Сумеречный Оплот (англ. Twilight Bulwark).
- Безветренный каньон затоплен, к югу от него — еще один лагерь культистов (англ. Twilight Withering).
- Городок Виражи на Миражах полностью затоплен, на поверхности воды стоит огромная скоростная баржа.
- Кратер Визела затоплен, холмы к востоку от него сдвинулись и открыли проход к океану; к югу отсюда возросла активность пиратов Южных Морей, к северу поселились кентавры племени Галак, теперь нейтральные; на севере — платформа, ведущая к Пылевым Топям.

Start at Westreach Summit.I got a ride from a Dustwallow quest that took me straight to the flight point.
Once at Westreach you’ll kill 10 Grimtotem and be sent immediately to Fizzle and Pozzik’s Speedbarge in what used to be Shimmering Flats. That should open the rest of the Speedbarge quests.

You start this achievement for alliance at the closest zone in Feralas. I think it’s like New Thalandral or something like that, the npc there gives you a quest to go to the speedbarge and all the other quests unlock.Комментарий от adm111

I’m in the same boat. 31/60 I flew to New Thalanar, they sent me to the Speedbarge, completed all available quests there, now what?OK after this post I decided to fly to the Speedbarge and make sure I didn’t miss a quest. Sure enough I see an exlamation point! Fizzle Brassbolts gives you a quest Free Freewind Post, that starts a whole round of quests. Got my cheeve! +3!
I’m pretty confident that when I left the speedbarge earlier there were none. Meanwhile I had completed Tanaris Quests, Un’Goro, Felwood, and Winterspring. I don’t know if that has anything to do with it, but I hope you all get yours.

Once you finish the speed barge quests go up to the north, there is a gnome diplomat that starts a quest chain that finishes the zone.Комментарий от imcooley
If you are stuck around 30/60 quests and you still have the Tanaris is Calling quest go turn it in and fly back to the Speedbarge then Fizzle Brassbolts should give you the Free Freewind Post quest.Комментарий от Sukie
I found myself at 31/60 with no more quests to do. I still had the quest to go to Tanaris, but decided to check the barge first. Sure enough, Fizzle was waiting for me with «Free Freewind Post». You don’t have to go to Tanaris to open this quest up.Комментарий от Murlocinataor
I noticed at the bottom of the speed barge (if ya swim underneath it) that there is a secret room. Know how ya see the anchors hanging out of the bottom of the barge, there are two that appear to be coming from inside a square hole. if you swim up and it the hole of I think the second one there is a secret room in there. any1 know why it is there or if it has a purpose or is there just to be pure awesome?Комментарий от Caveman121
I’m on a lvl 69 alt toon that has never been to Kalimdor. Cata changed the landscape and I’m just trying to get to Talarus for Children’s Week. My orphan won’t stop whining. How do get off this f’n barge and move on? Screw it! I’m buying Cataclysm tonight…Hearth back to Zangermarsh, taxi to Honor Hold, and fly the rest of the way, EVERYWHERE!Комментарий от pcgeek
For those trying to get loremaster. You unlock the quests in the zone by starting in Mudsprocket, Dustwallow marsh with the quest В Новый Таланаар (I suppose you could just start at New Thalanaar, Feralas if you’re already there. I needed another quest in Dustwallow so yeah). You have to kill a few mobs and then they boat you off to the barge. When you go down for the ship parts (underwater) make sure to take the Submerged Outhouse quest, not only is he two quests up front, but another one later on.Overall it was fairly straightforward, just pick up every quest as soon as it pops up on your mini map. You’ll be happy to know I did this without any drop item quests (yay no looting) and still had a few more quests I could have done.

I’m not sure how I missed this, but Волю заставе Вольного Ветра!, it is on the speedbarge. I was at 31/60 and could not find another quest outside of one at West Reach Summit that sent me into Razorfen Downs, which of course doesn’t count towards Loremaster. I did the dungeon and quests anyway out of boredom, and came out and decided to fly around once more looking for quests. I checked the boat, and Волю заставе Вольного Ветра! was available! I may have just missed it (more then likely) but this quest leads off into a massive chain that should finish the zone for you. I needed 29 quests to finish the zone, and all told from the quest I linked to the end, it was 32 quests. I did this on Horde, but I believe there is a similar quest for Alliance, as many of the quests I did had an alliance NPC standing next to my Horde quest giver. Alliance can take a quest that starts in Feralas in New thalanaar, talk to Rendowshe will give you a quest called «Two If By Boat» and she will take you to thousand needles at Fizzle Brassbolts.

Hello, I’m a Night Elf Druid level 61, I have the Burning Crusade, and Wrath Of The Lich King expansion, but NOT Cataclysm. I have all the achievements of quests in Kalimdor, except Thousand Needles, I just can’t get quests there. I have only completed 4 quests, the last one was Bar Fight in Fizzle and Pozzik’s Speedbarge. Will I be able to complete the achievement without getting the Cataclysm expansion? I really want to know so I can move on to the other achievements.(sorry for my English, it’s not my first language)

To start these quests, there is a quest that you get given from Feralas, near either Camp Ataya, or Dreamers rest, which are in the top left part of Feralas. I’m not sure if you need to complete other quests in Feralas to unlock that particular quest, but that is how you start the quests! Hope this helpsКомментарий от Darkincx

I had completed every zone except this one. i got to 31/60 and didnt have anymore quests. the last quest i turned in was to the troll’s wife and then i flew back to the ship. the quest «Free Freewind Post» was already available. took that and continued on through the zone til completed. worked out very nicely.Комментарий от P1ckl3B0y
I’ve been going through hell trying to get the quests that unlock the 1000 needles’ one, but I have checked every possible starting point from Feralis to Darnasses to Mudsprocket to Exodar. I am absolutely and completely stumped, and 1000 needles is the only area I need to get Kalimdor Loremaster. Does anyone have any suggestions for getting this? Did I miss something? For anyone else trying to open Thousand Needles, on my DK I had to fly to Westreach Summit (NW part), and do the quest The Grimtotem are Coming Племя Зловещего Тотема наступает, and then I received the quest Two If By Boat which took me to the barge and upon completion the barge opened its quests. Flying directly to the barge prior to that only resulted in the quest «Tanaris is Calling» appearing.Комментарий от Valkeyrie
I can’t stress this enough. If you’re going to go for this achievement I would more then reccomend having flying to do this zones achievement. There is so much travel in this place and water filling half the zone it wills save you hours to wait for flying.Комментарий от Nanimi
I was stuck at 49/60 and searched and searched for the rest of the quests. Seems years ago I much have dropped these quests mid chain, but I’m gonna share what helped me. I had just previously completed all other achievements in Kilimdor and still couldn’t find any quests. Kanati Greycloud was the only npc in Thousand Needles that would give me a quest and it was for Razorfen Downs (which you shouldn’t need dungeon quests to complete the achievements.) Come to find out I was flying the perimeter of Highperch where Pao’ka Swiftmountain (12.8, 33.8) gives you a quest which lead to finishing the achievement.
